When the Indians traveled the
river now known as Clarks River, they set up camp at the ford or
shallow river crossing. The ford is now
known as Bryant’s Ford. A hostile tribe
was waiting up on the ridge and a deadly battle ensued. Arrowheads have since been found all along
the ridge. That is why the battle-ground
is known as Indian Ridge, hence the meaning behind the name Indian Ridge
Stables.
This story was told by Geraldine Almon to Relma Swearinger. Mrs. Almon lived on the ridge many years. When Mrs. Almon
would plow her garden she would dig up arrowheads. We still find arrowheads on the ridge to this
day.
